Humor is one of the trickiest parts of writing your own vows. A well-placed laugh makes the room lean in — but a joke that lands wrong, or that’s really about you instead of the two of you, can deflate the most important moment of the day. My rule: the funny has to serve the sincerity, never compete with it. It’s the same balance I got into with Conan O’Brien on his podcast, and a lot of what we do at Vows & Speeches.
